Richard Foster is indicating that we should be "at home" with an intimate relationship with our Lord. I think St. Augustine was referring to intimacy when he said "weep for more joy." How frequently do we allow God to give us "the gift of kindness?" Can not the realization that God has been acting throughout church history and is continually acting even in today's generation, increase our faith and obedience in prayer?
Did you notice the likeness in the prayer of David in 1 Chronicles 29:10-19 and in Jesus' prayer of John 17? I noticed these: 1) God's greatness was acknowledged at the beginning of the prayers; 2) then intercession for others, including future generations; 3) intimate relationship with the Father God was evident; 4) purpose in life or a "calling" being brought to completion. Do you see others?
John 17:23,24 grabs me every time I read this prayer. "I in them and You in Me, in order that they may become one and perfectly united, that the world may know and (definitely) recognize that You sent Me and that You have loved them (even) as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also whom You have entrusted to Me (as Your gift to Me) may be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory, which You have given Me (Your love gift to Me); for You loved Me before the foundation of the world." AMP May we follow Jesus and be part of this oneness!

Some Thoughts of Mine

I know this study is on prayer and I have learned so much so far but... I have a few questions. (Leave it up to me even in cyberspace)
Why was Jesus praying in 3rd person?
Jesus talked about being in haven with God before the earth was formed well, did he know when he was a baby or at what age? Like was he able to sit in his crib thinking about all he needed to do when his earthly body could walk and talk or was he just a baby and a little boy and one day God reminded him of his destiny.
Then when Jesus was praying for his disciples he was telling God how wonderful they all are except for one but he was doomed to destruction so the Scripture would be fulfilled, poor guy. He was doomed? I wonder if anyone today is doomed ( doomed to go to hell or doomed to have a rough life, or what) so the Scripture can be fulfilled?
I love reading what Jesus has to say. His words are so loving to everyone. You can almost feel his pain knowing what a mess me make of things.
It's me Debbie finally.
God is so good. He wants a relationship with each one of us. He gives us a choice If we want one with Him. If we want that relationship prayer is a very important part of it.
When I was reading the old and new testament scriptures it hit me that God is just waiting for us to talk to Him. To Pray with openess and what is in our heart. He hears us before we ever sit down to pray. God did his part and is now waiting for us to respond to His reaching out to us. He is looking for us to have a relationship with Him and with those around us so that others can see Him in us. We are not only to have a relationship with others but to pray for them also. Just as Jesus and Paul and others in the Bible prayed for believers. Donna I will let Marie or Myrtle or someone with little more knowledge answer your questions but it does seem to me that some people sure have a much harder row to hoe. I would like it if ya'll will pray that I can do a little better about expressing myself. I have thoughts on things but when I sit down to type my mind goes blank. Just like at test time. I enjoy reading others comments and studying the scripture before I sit down to type. Thank you
Hi Debbie,
When I read my Bible I always have a pen and paper with me and as questions come to me I write them down. See if that will work for you.
